Jimmy is a big fan of another humorous Irish Catholic writer, Father James Martin. Here’s a postcard that Father James Martin sent to Jimmy after receiving The Secrets of Little Saints.
If you are unfamiliar with James Martin’s work, you might want to check out The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything: A Spirituality for Real Life or My Life with the Saints. Both are great reads for Catholics and Non-Catholics alike.
VA Festival of the Book Local Authors/Local Stories
Jimmy was a featured author at the Virginia Festival of the Book.
The Festival took place in Charlottesville, Virginia from March 20 – 24, 2013 and celebrated authors and reading with many, mostly free events.
Jimmy was at Northside Library at Albemarle Square on Wednesday, March 20 as part of the Local Authors, Local Stories program. He entertained the room with humorous comments and stories related to his memoir about growing up the Irish Catholic Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx.
See some clips of Jimmy’s panel presentation below. Other authors on the panel included Mary Helen Detmer and photographer Lee Beltrone (Brown’s Coves Poems: Along Doyle’s River), Gerry Kruger (On Kruger Pond: Charlie’s Story), Ruth Shorter (Adventures of Peyton Manning: Diabetic Service Dog) and Kathleen Olowin (Angels in My Heart: A Journey of Love and Loss).
Writer Catherine Hoffman included The Secret of Little Saints in a Staunton News Leader article recommending local authors and artists.
